Our Services

Services offered by De Rust It

De Rust It has a broad range of stripping services, starting out with basic stripping of rust, oils and greases we have progressed to stripping paint, powder coating and some chromes, once the item has been completely stripped down to the base metal we passivate the metal, giving you a bit longer to assess and address the item before rust reappears sets in.

Servicing various industries in the Primary, Secondary and Tertiary sectors.

Chemical cleaning of Grease, Paint, Rust, Oil, Carbon Buildup

cleaning-3

Rust removal was the core business when Derustit was officially opened in 1982.

Since then, the addition of degreasing, oil and carbon removal as well as the removal of paint, powder coating, galvanising, chrome plating, glues and resins, even paint removal from Woodwork has been added to the array of metal cleaning services offered.

We believe the chemical cleaning route beats any blasting, hands down … as all components are completely submerged in liquids that get In everywhere necessary, without leaving trace elements behind. Unlike soda/sand or Vapour/aqua blasting which can cause unforeseen issues in the future, whether it be a manifold, carburetor, cooler or car door. Hence us sticking to our conventional methods for most cleaning purposes.

Abednego heads up our Chemical cleaning process with over 15 years of service with DeRustIt, you can rest assured your components are in an experienced specialist’s hands.

Stainless Steel Electro-Polishing

cleaning-4

Over the years the company diversified into electro-polishing of stainless steel. We have now been polishing stainless steel components/parts for over 25 years. As good as stainless steel is, the process will enhance the corrosive resistant properties of the metal by a factor of nearly 80 times.

Electro-polishing

In simple terms, Electro-polishing can be viewed as the reverse of electro-plating. Instead of plating a metal item for protective and decorative purposes, stainless steel can be electro-polished for the same purposes, yet in the electro-polishing process contaminants are removed from the stainless steel surface and the surface roughness is reduced by levelling micro-peaks and valleys. It is also referred to as Electro-chemical polishing, or electrolytic polishing. The electro-polishing process is done in a chemical bath with a cathode (normally lead) and an anode (being the part to be electro-polished) current is passed through the electrolyte drawing contaminants off of the stainless steel (positive anode) towards the lead (negative cathode), this process can take between 15 minutes and 2 hours depending on various variables.

In certain industries the surface quality of stainless steel equipment is very important because of direct contact with the product, may it be food grade, medical or a corrosive environment. Electropolishing significantly improves the integral properties of your equipment/ parts. The electro-polishing creates a very shiny and almost chemically inert making the electro-polished parts more capable of rust prevention and also suitable for decorative purposes. Electro-polishing removes the micro-roughness reducing the surface peaks by up to 80% both removing embedded impurities and slimming the chances of contamination build-up on the part in the future. Electro-polishing helps the stainless steel with passivity due to the removal of contaminants allowing an oxide layer to be formed to protect the component.

There are many benefits on the stainless steel via the process of electro-polishing, including:

Electroplating

Electroplating-service

Electroplating is a process that uses an electric current to coat a metal with a thin layer of another metal. This process is often used to give metals a more lustrous appearance, or to prevent them from rusting.

Derustit offers electroplating services for both commercial and industrial applications. We use the latest technology and equipment to provide a high-quality finish. We can electroplate a variety of metals, including copper, brass, and steel.

Electroplating is an ideal solution for protecting metal components from corrosion. It can also be used to improve the appearance of metals. If you are looking for a company that can provide Electroplating in Cape Town, then look no further than Derustit. We offer a wide range of Electroplating services to meet your needs.

Powder Coating

At Derustit, we provide Powder Coating services that will help protect your metal surfaces from corrosion and wear. Powder coating is a type of coating that is applied as a dry powder to metal surfaces. The powder is then cured under heat to create a hard, durable finish. Powder coating is an excellent choice for protecting metal surfaces from corrosion and wear, and it can also be used to create a wide range of colors and finishes.

Sandblasting

sandblasting-service

Sandblasting is a process of propelling abrasive material against a surface using high-pressure air. This process is often used to remove paint, rust, and other deposits from metal surfaces. Sandblasting can also be used to prepare surfaces for painting or other forms of coating.

Derustit offers sandblasting services in Cape Town and the surrounding areas. We have a team of experienced professionals who can handle any sandblasting job, big or small. We use only the best equipment and materials, and we take pride in our workmanship.

Vapour Blasting

vapour-blasting-service

Vapour Blasting is a process of surface preparation that uses a combination of water and media to remove contaminants from a variety of surfaces. This process is often used to prepare surfaces for painting or other finishes, as it leaves the surface clean and free of debris. Vapour Blasting is also effective at removing rust, scale, and other build-up from metal surfaces.

Derustit offers Vapour Blasting services for both commercial and industrial clients. We use the latest Vapour Blasting equipment to ensure a high quality finish on your project. Our team of experienced professionals can handle any Vapour Blasting project, big or small.

Anodising

Anodising is a process used to protect metal surfaces from corrosion. Anodising is done by electrolytically oxidizing the surface of the metal to form a protective layer. This layer is resistant to corrosion and wear, and can be dyed to create a variety of different colours. Anodising is commonly used on aluminium and titanium, but can also be done on other metals such as copper and stainless steel.

We use the latest technology and equipment to provide high quality anodising services.

As the company does little manufacturing, not in competition with any of its customers but purely to provide a better service to our new and existing customers, all customers whether the job is big or small are treated as no #1!

We give personalised attention and service to each customer and go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction, even to the extent of doing free samples within 24 hours, for the client to evaluate the finish on his particular grade and finish of stainless steel.

Fun Fact

What Are the Different Types of Steel? According to the World Steel Association, there are over 3,500 different grades of steel, encompassing unique physical, chemical, and environmental properties. We are proud to say we haven’t found one yet that we cannot clean.
